Pre-Exemption Affidavit for Daniel Inman
May 31, 1842
I, Isaac Gates of Kane County, Illinois, Do solemnly swear That Daniel Inman is a citizen of these United States, and the head of a family consisting of his wife, and is an inhabitant of the South East quarter of Section Number Eleven of Township Number Thirty eight North, of Range Number Seven East of the Third Principal Meridian, and that no other person resides upon the said quarter section of land. That the said Daniel Inman entered upon and made settlement in person on the said land, since the first day of June, 1840, to wit: - on the 20th day of May 1842, by building thereon a frame dwelling house about 12 feet square, with door, floor, window and board roof and with stove: and moving therein the next day (21st) and has lived in the said house, and made it his exclusive home, from the 21st May 1842 till the present time. That the said Inman has improved and cultivated said land to the extent of about seven or eight acres, which is sown with wheat, oats and corn, and about forty five acres of said tract is enclosed with a good rail fence.
