1690 - MICHAEL INMAN of Bewerley

In the name of God Amen I Michael Inman of Bewerley in the County of Yorke yeoman being sick of body but of perfect minde and memory, blessed be God, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testamt in manner following (viz) First and principally I bequeath my soul into the hands of God my Creatour, assuredly trusting through the merritt of out only saviour Jesus Christ tohave perfect remission of all my sinns, And my body to be buryed in the parochial Church or Chapel of Pateleybridge. And as for that temporall estate which God hath lent me I dispose thereof as followeth ... Impr. My will and mind is that all my debts and funerall expenses be fully paid outof my psonall estate not hereafter otherwise disposed of-

It. My will and mind is that my endeared wife Eliz: Inman shall have all the household goods at present in my possession (except as hereafter excepted) and shall have a piece of gold called a Jacobus, and shall have in lieu of her widowright out of all my lands and tenements, all the mean profitts of all my lands and tenemts in Bewerley (without any impeachment of wast on her part) for an during her life naturall, only in case she shall ............. of widowright to all the rest of my estate. Always excepting the now dwelling house of my son Robert Inman with the kitchin and two stables, a peat house, a helme with a garden and a croft thereunto adjoyning.

It. I give to my well beloved grand child Katherine Inman her executors and assigns from and after the decease of my said wife, all the house wherein I now live with a garden and peathouse now injoined therewith.

It. I give to my affectionate daughter in law Katherine Inman one piece of gold called a broad.

It. I give to all my grandchildren each of them a guinea and a crown piece.

It. I give to my own maid servt at the time of my death five shillings. And to all the hired servts of my sd son also at the time of my decease toeach an half crown piece.

It. I give to my sd most dutyfull son Rt Inman my desk with all the writings and other things therein except as before excepted.

It. I give unto him, my sd son all the rest of my estate as well real as psonall, and in case my said grandchild Katherine shall happen to dy without issue then my will and minde is that the above given house and premises shall revert to the use of my sd son Rt his Exer.Admrs and Assignes. And I do hereby nominate and appoynt my sd son Robt Inman sole executor of this my last will and testamt. Witness my hand and seal this fourteenth day of August Anno Dm 1690

[NOTES: The above Michael Inman was buried 20 Mar 1690/91 at Pateley Bridge. He had just two children :

  1. OWEN baptised 22 Mar 1656/7 at Pateley Bridge, but died in infancy.
  2. ROBERT baptised 3 Oct 1658 Pateley Bridge, married 11 Aug 1678 at Burnsall Katherine LOWSON. He died 26 Dec 1721, and was buried 28 Dec 1721 at Pateley Bridge.]
